Internships: Learning On the Job
Internships are an important part of the process as you evaluate your career interests, goals and options. Internships are a great way to gain professional experiences that open doors and provide you with valuable insights about the field, the positions, and skills needed.Internships are also an ideal way to learn workplace skills, to gain better understanding about different firm cultures and to build your network.
Whether completed during the summer or during the academic year, internships strengthen your resume—they are a strong indicator that you focused and actively managing your career. Many organizations use internships as a recruitment strategy as a way to find and evaluate talent for long-term/full-time positions.
Timing Is Key
Most organizations focus on recruiting for summer intern positions. A few offer academic or special internships. Research the internships you are interested in applying for so you are aware of the application deadline and requirements. Summer internship application deadlines are as early as January. We recommend you begin your research and preparation by October.
